Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. To enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. To motivate students to become better citizens.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Possess the qualifications prescribed by US Army regulations to be certified as a JROTC Instructor

Retired Army NCO 

Able to teach/coach Drill and Ceremonies IAW Army Training Circular 3-21.5

Able to teach/coach Air Rifle Marksmanship

Experience with young adults through coaching, scouting or other youth activities

Computer literate

Experience:

One year as an A1 preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Academics

  1. Prepare the Master Training Schedule for the academic year and submit for approval NLT 31 July of each year. (108 Required hrs. and 72 Optional hrs.)
  2. Prepare and display the weekly training schedules.
  3. Teacher JROTC subjects at the LET I and LET III (1st year and 3rd year) level.
  4. Prepare and administer exams.
  5. Secure and account for the Standard Test Bank for LET I, II, III, and IV level exam program. 

Administration

  1. Prepare periodic reports for 5th Brigade at Fort Sam Houston and U.S. Army Cadet Command, Ft. Monroe, Virginia.
    1. Disposition of graduates (1 Sep)
    2. Opening enrollment (1 Oct)
    3. Ethnic report (1 Nov)
    4. Internal management control (1 Mar)
    5. Superior Cadet Award selection (15 Mar)
    6. Closing enrollment (5 Apr)
    7. Annual 100% inventory (30 Jun)
    8. Annual unit report (15 Jul)
    9. Instructor performance appraisals (31 Jul)
  1. Prepare and have on file Standard Operating Procedures for the following:
    1. Battalion Operations and Functions
    2. Fire and Safety
    3. Recruiting and Publicity
    4. Classroom procedures
    5. Awards
    6. High Risk Training
    7. Rifle Team
    8. Drill Team
    9. Color Guard
    10. Physical Fitness Training
    11. Orienteering and Land Navigation Training

Logistics Administration

  1. Supply
    1. Conduct 100% inventory and submit results to Director of Logistics, Ft. Sam Houston, TX and Director of JROTC programs, 5th Brigade
    2. Prepare equipment for turn-in to include preparation of DA 3161, request for issue or turn-in, and take items and documentation to DOL warehouse, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. (This includes all items issued to the Pleasanton H.S. JROTC program by the U.S. Army except uniform items.)
    3. Inventory, submit requisitions for, account for, issue and receive uniform items provided by the U.S. Army to the Pleasanton H.S. JROTC program.
    4. Determine serviceability of all uniform items and destroy that which is no longer useable.
    5. Prepare DA 3161, request for issue/turn-in, documenting the appropriate disposition of uniform items.
    6. Determine requirement for, order and stock items required to provide Pleasanton H.S. cadets with any school peculiar uniform items.
  2. Maintenance
    1. Determine serviceability of equipment issued by the U.S. Army and ensure that items are maintained adequately. If required maintenance is above user level, ensure that a DA form 2765 request for maintenance is prepared and submitted with the item to be maintained, to the proper maintenance facility.
    2. Determine serviceability of equipment issued belonging to the Pleasanton H.S. and ensure that items are maintained adequately. Required maintenance that is above user level referred to a commercial vendor for work to be accomplished.
  3. Transportation
    1. Ensure that all community or school events are scheduled with enough time available to procure adequate school vehicles for transportation to and from the scheduled event.
    2. Schedule driver personnel as necessary to transport cadets to and from events.

Operations

  1. Establish, equip, train and monitor the special teams of the Battalion (physical fitness team, orienteering team, drill team, rifle team, color guard and honor guard).
  2. Coordinate, set-up, and conduct approximately 45 special events per school year.
    1. School           
    2. i.      Reveille                                                           
    3. ii.      Battalion review (homecoming, formal inspection)   
    4. Community                                                      
    5. i.      Honor Guard, Color Guard, Drill Team, and other community support commitments                                                         
    6. ii.      Parades (homecoming, fiesta)                                                       
    7. iii.      Adopt-a-highway program                                                          

Other Duties

  1. Mentor leadership of the battalion (generally the Junior and Senior class cadets).
  2. Perform other duties as directed by the Principal.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals;standard instructional equipment;

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying; may lift and move text books, classroom equipment, and military equipment

Environment: Work inside, work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
